Instagram is becoming the second Twitter, as far as record reporting is concerned. For a while, Twitter was going from strength to strength and had a new usage record every couple of months or so. Now, Instagram is doing the same.
After boasting that Hurricane Sandy led to a record number of photos about the event published in a short time frame, Thanksgiving proved to be another fertile time for the mobile photo sharing service.
In total, Instagram saw 10 million photos related to the American holiday. At its peak, it was getting over 200 photos per second for a maximum of 22 per second at around 12.40 pm PST.
For comparison, the previous record was set during the Sandy superstorm during which 800,000 photos about it were posted. The record before that was just 85,000 photos.
Going from 800,000 to 10 million is a huge step, but it's clear that more and more people are turning to Instagram to share their moments with their families. It was also a record day for Instagram in terms overall usage.
