Video Games Are Replacing Myths, Says Dead Space Artist

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Christopher Shy, an artist working on Dead Space 3 and the creator of the graphics novel accompanying the title, believes that long running video game franchises are the new myths of the modern age and are slowly replacing both movies and books.

The developer tells Destructiod that, “Now, we have games that unfold, and stories that we can be a part of as we play. Games for the last ten or fifteen years are becoming part of our collective consciousness. We know and remember those mythologies.”

The only problem with video games as myth is that the audience might be smaller in the long term than that for books or movies because of the more fractured nature of the market.

Dead Space: Salvage and Dead Space: Liberation are the two graphics novels linked to the Visceral and EA series.
