Google is always trying to keep the web open, when it suits it anyway, and tries to push back against governments which are always seeking more control over the Web and the content on it.
Case in point is a new Russian law which makes it trivial to censor a lot of content types.
While no one is arguing against removing some of that content off the web, other categories are trickier. Google's YouTube filed a lawsuit in Russia to try to bring back a video which showed a fake suicide.
The creator argued that the video, titled "Video lesson on how to cut your veins," was simply showing a way of creating fake blood makeup for Halloween.
YouTube took down the video when it was asked, but filed an appeal with the court, claiming that the video did not promote suicide, as was the accusation. That appeal has now been rejected, meaning that the video will remain blocked in Russia.
