At the edge of our solar system NASA spacecraft earlier had detected a strange ribbon of energy and particles. The same now appears to be serving the astronomers and scientists as a roadmap in the sky for interstellar magnetic field.

Scientists say they are learning more details about the conditions at the edge of our solar system by comparing in-space observations of the ribbon and ground-based studies of it. In the study researchers also has mentioned about how the environment of our sun protects the solar system from high-energy cosmic rays.

The mysterious energy ribbon was first discovered in 2009 by the NASA’s Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX).

Lead author of the study Nathan Schwadron said they are trying to link the IBEXwith high-energy cosmic rays.

Schwadron is also physicist at the University of New Hampshire. He added that the mysterious ribbon is probably perpendicular to the interstellar magnetic field where as the cosmic rays stream along the field.

He said the ground-based observatories found that clusters of cosmic rays are correlated to the IBEX ribbon.

He further added that his work will help other scientists to better understand about the boundary of our solar system.

The influence in the solar system by the sun is called as heliosphere where as the wind of it flows within the heliosphere. The transition zone between both is named as heliosheath.

The new finding is published in the Science journal online edition.
