It's Patch Tuesday again this week, and Microsoft has gone to the rather unusual route of updating its Security Bulletin Advance Notification for February 2014 to add in two critical updates. Both updates patch remote code execution holes that affect Windows XP, the soon-to-be-retired operating system. The updated bulletin is now titled as "Version 2.0" and can be accessed here.
The first is an Internet Explorer update that affects all supported versions, from IE 6 to IE 11. The second is a Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows update that affects Windows operating systems "all the way from XP, through Server Core installations, to 8.1 and Server 2012," reports Naked Security.
As reported previously, Windows XP will no longer be supported as of April 8, 2014, and Microsoft has repeatedly exhorted businesses to switch away to a new version of the Windows operating system. While support will cease for the general public, enterprises can still gain access to security updates--if they are prepared to pay up to $200 per PC for the first year, and that will reportedly increase with each succeeding year.
