Lonnie Chisenhall tied a Cleveland record by driving in nine runs, and had three homers among his five hits, as visiting Cleveland trounced Texas 17-7 Monday night.


“I know a day like today is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” said Chisenhall, who raised his batting average to .385 but needs more plate appearances to quality for the league lead. “I’m enjoying it as much as I can. I don’t know the history of it, who’s done it in the past.”


Major League Baseball said it was the first time a player went five for five with three homers and nine RBIs, since the RBI became a statistic in 1920. He also is only the fourth big leaguer to have at least five hits, nine RBIs and three homers in a game — first since Boston’s Fred Lynn in 1975, according to STATS.


Mariners 3, Rays 0 • Robinson Cano drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double and five Seattle pitchers combined on a five-hitter as Seattle beat host Tampa Bay. Cano’s big hit came during a three-run third inning against David Price.


Blue Jays 5, Twins 4 • Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Kevin Pillar singled home the winning run in the ninth as host Toronto won.


Orioles 4, Red Sox 0 • Bud Norris allowed three hits in eight innings of work and Adam Jones hit one of Baltimore’s three home runs in its victory over visiting Boston.


Angels 4, Athletics 1 • Mike Trout drove in a run with a double that originally was ruled a homer, to help Los Angles win at home in the opener of a series between the West’s top two teams.


White Sox 6, Tigers 5 • Jose Abreu hit a two-run homer to help the host White Sox with a win over Detroit.


Yankees-Royals rained out • The scheduled game in Kansas City between the Royals and New York Yankees was postponed because of rain. It will be made up on Aug. 25.


National League


Dodgers 6, Reds 2 • Scott Van Slyke (John Burroughs) drove in a career-high four runs, with two homers, to lead visiting Los Angeles past Cincinnati. Van Slyke, son of former Cardinal Andy Van Slyke, hit a solo homer and a three-run shot off Tony Cingrani (2-7), He gave up six runs in 4 2/3 innings.


Pirates 6, Cubs 2 • Andrew McCutchen hit his eighth homer and drove in three runs to help host Pittsburgh win. He drove a two-run shot to right field in the third inning then added an RBI-double in the fifth off Edwin Jackson (4-6).


Braves 3, Rockies 1 • Chris Johnson had three hits and two runs batted in to lead visiting Atlanta past Colorado.


Nationals 9, Giants 2 • Ian Desmond had three hits and drove in five runs to spark visiting Washington.


Interleague


Astros 4, Diamondbacks 3 • Jose Altuve had three hits, including an RBI double, to help visiting Houston win.
