Now you can "like" it — and then buy it.

Facebook announced this week that it is testing a "Buy" button in its ad space, allowing its 1.2 billion users on the social media giant to make a purchase with a single tap.

The initiative, which lets users purchase items from businesses without leaving Facebook, was detailed on the company's business blog and something that the social network ensures was built "with privacy in mind."

The network said that the "Buy" initiative is currently limited to "a few small and medium-sized businesses in the U.S."

It is an ostensible move for Facebook to make, said Gartner analyst Brian Blau.

"I think it is foreshadowing a time in the future when Facebook is going to be more serious about commerce," he said.
