The first trailer for Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything, has been released, giving audiences a first look at Eddie Redmayne in action as the legendary astrophysicist.
The emotional drama traces Hawking's intense relationship with fellow Camrbidge student and lover Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones) as he comes to terms with his diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease at the age of 21.
The film is directed by James Marsh, who won an Oscar in 2009 for his work on acclaimed documentary Man on Wire, and will premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month. Anthony McCarten's screenplay focuses largely on Wilde's 2007 memoir Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, which discusses her marriage to Hawking and their eventual divorce 30 years later.
Alongside rising stars Redmayne and Jones, The Theory of Everything stars Emily Watson, David Thewlis and Charlie Cox, recently seen in Boardwalk Empire.
The film will be released in the UK on January 2, 2015.
