Virginia boasts the fastest Internet in the country, while Alaska Last - WallStreet OTC

The state of Virginia has the distinction of having the fastest Internet Speed in the country. In spite of a drop in connection speed the state has managed to stay on the top with regard to connection speed. While the North East part of US may boast of faster Internet than most of the regions, it is not the undisputed numero uno with respect to internet speed.

The state of Virginia has the unique distinction of having the fastest internet speed in the US. The internet speed in Virginia is almost twice compared to the internet speed in Alaska, Arkansas, Kentucky and Montana. The state houses the CIA and is also known to give Presidents.

The inconsistency in connection speeds in different parts of the country can be gauged with a glance at the map from the Internet Service provider Broadview Networks. The people in the Northern region are blessed with faster internet speed as compared to their fellow citizens in the south. However there are exceptions for example the states of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming are ranked low in connection speeds as compared with other states in the same region.

The map itself was sourced from the present ”state of the Internet” report by the New York-based cloud services company Akamai. Akamai revealed that the internet speed in the state of Virginia was on an average 13.1 MB per seconds. It was followed by Delaware and Massachusetts, which both registered connection speeds of 13.1 megabytes per second. The report was published in June.

In spite of the fact that the state registered a fall in internet speed by 4.3% in comparison to 2013, Virginia managed to cling to the top spot. However the Virginia internet speed fails to impress if you look at the speeds which are offered by networks in other countries.

The speed of internet in South Korea is 23.6 megabytes per second and is below the average internet speed in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has been ranked third globally in term of internet speeds.

The bottom of the table is represented by the state of Alaska which has the slowest internet speed of 7 megabytes per second. It was followed by Arkansas, Kentucky and Montana; all averaged 7.3 megabytes per second. Virginia was the only state which showed a decline in internet speed while most states improved on their past performance with Massachusetts’ showing a gain of 2.6 percent in internet speed to Michigan’s 13 percent.
