World of Warcraft Subreddit returns post-controversy - Delhi Daily News

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Over the weekend, various gaming websites reported on the moderator takedown of popular subreddit, r/WoW, in response to launch issues plaguing the recently released World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor.

The moderator, who goes by the online handle nitesmoke, created controversy after setting the page to private in the wake of massive log-in queues for the Blizzard Entertainment MMO.

This shut down the subreddit completely for every one of its regular visitors, triggering accusations of childish and nasty behavior on the part of someone who was frustrated with being unable to login to the game because of the long wait times.

The WoW subreddit is now back and running - but without nitesmoke's leadership. The new redditor is known as aphoenix, and he's been up-front with his fellow redditors by saying that nitesmoke made a big mistake.

According to aphoenix, nitesmoke is no longer on the moderation team at all, who issued an apology of his own and on nitesmoke's behalf.

Aphoenix asked his redditors to let the incident go, to stop trying to get back at nitesmoke, and move on with their lives now that the subreddit is back up.

The new lead moderator ensured redditors that the team responsible for running the WoW subreddit on the social media site would not respond to a similar situation in the future in the same way.
