A team of scientists from Jenelia Research Campus scooped this year’s competitive science imaging contest known as BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition. Olympus hosts the competition, which has been running for 11 years now. The team won the competition with their video that captured a drosophila embryo.

The stunning nature video captured and recorded a drosophila embryo over a period of 24 hours and in an interval of 30 seconds. The entire process required a high level of exactness and precision, which was stunning enough in the video. The team came up with something that judges in the competition sided with as truly competitive and deserving of a win this year.

The scientists at Jenelia Research Campus that created the video were Dr. William Lemon, Dr. Philipp Keller and Fernando Amat. The Campus is in Virginia and is located in Ashburn. The three developed a marvelous video that now joins many other videos and images in the BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition over the past several years since the competition was created. The winning team received $5,000 worth of equipment from the competition host, Olympus.

BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition has always been a hot contest and 2014 entries truly lived up to the spirit of the competition. According to Olympus, over 70 countries participated in this year’s contest, suggesting the phenomenal growth of the competition. As the contest becomes popular each year, contestants also continue to get increased exposure and improved prize.

Olympus’ BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition is different from many other science-themed competitions out there. Here there is no extraordinary bar as even novices have the same chance as experts. The open rules in the competition are seen as an inspiration behind the truly stunning photographs entered in the contest.

Although the rules of entry into BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition are favorable and encourage widespread participation, the impact of the studies cannot be underrated. The studies have a significant impact the field of medicine.
