Thursday, December 18, 2014

Each year Olympus hold its Bioscapes international digital imaging competition, which celebrates images and movies of life captured with light microscopes. This year brought a stunning collection of entries. Here, we present the top 10 winners.

Top prize this year went to a video of a drosophila (fly) embryo recorded at 30-second intervals over a 24-hour period, beginning three hours after egg laying.

Dr. William Lemon, Fernando Amat and Dr. Philipp Keller, of HHMI Janelia Research Campus, in Ashburn, Va., captured the footage.
