President Obama Begins 16-Day Vacation in Hawaii - Viral Global News

President Barack Obama and family have arrived in Hawaii, ready to embark upon their 16-day, tropical vacation for the holiday season. During this time, it is anticipated the 53-year-old will go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, enjoy bike rides with his daughters, lap up the local cuisine and, of course, play golf.

“My presidency is entering the fourth quarter,” stated President Obama at a press conference on Dec. 19. “Going into the fourth quarter, you usually get a time-out. I am now looking forward to quiet time-out, Christmas with my family.”

Barack Obama landed on the island at around midnight on Friday, along with Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha. All in all, the flight aboard Airforce One took approximately nine hours to reach Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu. The family met Admiral Samuel Locklear III, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, before being whisked off in a motorcade.

Obama’s latest getaway represents his sixth trip to the Hawaiian island of Oahu since his presidential stint began. The president has a personal connection with the island, as it is where he was born and raised. While the First Family’s arrangements this year are not definitive, they usually rent a beach-side house in Kailua, with the president using his own personal funds to pay for the expense.

Joined by a number of his White House aides, the president kicked off his first day with several rounds of golf. He spent around four hours at the Kaneohe Klipper golf club.

According to White House officials, Obama will not attend any public events while on vacation. As on previous occasions, however, Obama may be forced to issue a response to breaking news events and international affairs.

In responding to the murder of two New York City police officers, both of whom were killed while out on patrol in Brooklyn, Obama said there was no “justification” for such a crime. “I unconditionally condemn today’s murder of two police officers in New York City,” said Obama in a press statement.
