A Vancouver-born dancer and reality TV actress was found dead in a Los Angeles apartment Monday, killed in an apparent murder-suicide, according to police.
Stephanie Moseley, 30, trained at Vancouver’s Pacific DanceArts, Danzmode in Burnaby and Kirkwood Academy in Nanaimo before moving to Los Angeles in 2004, according to her website.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to an apartment complex in Park La Brea, west of the city’s downtown core and about two kilometres southeast of Beverly Hills, around 7:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to an LAPD news release.
When they arrived, officers heard gunshots being fired and they called in members of a SWAT team for help.
By the time police entered the home, Moseley was dead, as was her husband Earl Warren Hayes, 34, a man U.S. media outlets report was a member of boxer Floyd Mayweather’s entourage.
Based on an initial investigation, homicide detectives allege that Hayes shot Moseley before turning a gun on himself.
Hayes’ friend Burrel L. Wilks told NBC Los Angeles he saw Moseley as a sister.
“Whatever happened behind those doors, we’ll never know,” he told NBC. “But I heard out of her own mouth he never raised a hand on her ... This is kind of stunning.”
Moseley has danced on tour with performers including Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, and acted on TV shows including Hellcats and Once Upon a Time, according to her site. She also appeared in a Twilight movie.
She is most recently known for her work on the VH1 basketball-drama series Hit the Floor.
Controversial R & B singer Chris Brown, who has worked with Moseley, posted a photo of the two together, writing, “RIP baby girl. Danced with me on tour and was always the coolest person. My prayers go out to you and (Hayes’) family.”
