COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Members of Ohio State's national championship football team are headed to the White House to be recognized by the president.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to honor the team at an event in Washington on Monday.
The meeting follows an invitation Obama extended to Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer shortly after the team became the winners in January of the first ever College Football Playoff in a 42-20 win over Oregon.
A spokesman for the Ohio State Athletic Department said about 200 people, including Ohio State President Michael Drake, will be part of the group traveling from Columbus, including players, coaching staff, support staff and university administrators. Not all will be at the ceremony.
The trip is being paid for by the athletic department.
