Just 24 hours after a bootlegged version leaked online, the official trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is now out. And it's in HD, crisp and epic quality.
Director Zack Snyder released a 20-second teaser video on Twitter late Wednesday night, but it only showed the superhero costumes for the titular characters without Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman) in them. Snyder promised a full trailer would come on Monday.
But the leak, which appeared to be pirated from a movie theater in another country with Portuguese subtitles, prompted Warner Bros. Pictures to act fast. Brand-new footage shows both main characters, including Batfleck in "detective mode" with glowing eyes, the Batwing, authorities (with S logos on their shoulders) bowing to Superman, and a statue of Kal-El himself with graffiti written on it: "False God."
"Devils don't come from hell beneath us," Jesse Eisenberg says as Lex Luthor, though we don't get to see him. "They come from the sky," another (?) voice says.
The exciting video ends with Superman flying in the air, staring down at Batman, and then landing for what looks like an epic battle in the rain. Indeed, this is Batman vs. Superman.
"Tell me. Do you bleed?" Affleck growls. "You will."
Unfortunately, there are still no clips of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman or Jason Momoa as Aquaman, but the first look at Affleck in action may have some casting critics more optimistic. Still, Snyder is likely going to make people wait to reveal more goodies, just like J.J. Abrams with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," also starring Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Ray Fisher, Holly Hunter and Jeremy Irons, opens March 25, 2016.
After that, DC Comics' movie lineup includes "Suicide Squad" (Aug. 5, 2016); "Wonder Woman" (June 23, 2017); "Justice League" (Nov. 17, 2017); "The Flash" (March 23, 2018); "Aquaman" (July 27, 2018); "Shazam" (April 5, 2019); "Justice League 2" (June 14, 2019); "Cyborg" (April 3, 2020); "Green Lantern" (June 19, 2020); and new standalone Batman and Superman movies.
