After a week stay the former mayor leaves Northwestern Hospital

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley was released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, this afternoon where he was in the intensive care unit since last Friday after falling ill while at a seminar in Phoenix, Ariz. earlier that day.

Daley walked out of the hospital shortly after noon dressed in a gray, wool overcoat and olive green hat. He was accompanied by family members and he waved before walking into a van driven by his daughter.

He did not issue any comments to awaiting reporters.

He underwent extensive testing to determine the cause of his illness, but a diagnosis is not expected to be released, said Jacquelyn Heard, his longtime spokeswoman.
