The price war among US wireless carriers is getting deadlier. T-mobile US slashed the price of their unlimited shared data plan by 29% and brought it down to a much more affordable looking $100 a month. This move will obviously put pressure on their business rivals. It has thus become the first and the only company to have an unlimited 4G family data plan.
Beginning Wednesday, the carrier will offer unlimited talk time and 4G LTE data access for two lines at $100 per month. A total of upto 10 additional lines can be added for $40 per month for each line. All these added lines will also get unlimited data calling, text messaging, streaming music service provided by the carrier, international roaming feature, free Wi-fi calling and in-flight services. The nest ever Christmas gift for their customers!
This new offering not only undercuts AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless offers but also matches the least expensive ones by Sprint for two lines. Of course, it gets cheaper as more lines are added. Though three of their biggest rivals mentioned above have a bigger reach, “T-Mobile US can at least stake a claim to offering network speeds at least matching the fastest offers on the market.”
“People are saying loud and clear that they hate the confusion and complexity of the carriers’ shared data plans, and they should,” John Legere, chief executive officer of T-Mobile, said in the statement. “They threaten you with punishing overage penalties unless you police your own family’s data usage or up your data bucket and spend more every month.”
There are a lot of parents out there who do not want to see their kids glued to the internet all day, aimlessly and mindlessly and later having to pay through the nose for the same. At the same time, monitoring the same can be nerve-wracking too. The unlimited data plan for families will help solve a part of the problem. Since the plan does not have a data cap, users are free to access the internet all day long if they wish to (whether on their smartphones or their computers), though the 4G connectivity will drain the battery off fast.
The unlimited 4G LTE family plan by T-mobile will however be available only for a limited period. But since there is no expiry date, users can continue to use it even after the offer is discontinued.
