Concentrated rosehip extract shows remarkable promise in boositing treatment effectiveness in ER+ breast cancer patients.

Personal views and standpoints may vary, but there’s really no denying how homeopathic medicines rarely receive any advocacy from the scientific community. Despite having played an incredibly significant role in human history, it’s really only as of very recently that the beneficial effects of herbal treatment have been studied in-depth. And while it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing an end to conventional medicine use in the near future at least, it is becoming clear that the measured and targeted application of certain herbal compounds can enhance the power of existing treatments considerably.

Just days after a study was published highlighting the benefits of maple syrup extract for those taking antibiotics, a separate paper suggests that Rosehip could be beneficial for patients being treated for a certain type of breast cancer. One of the most aggressive and difficult cancers to treat, ER+ breast cancer has the ability to “switch on a pro-survival pathway, enabling tumor cells to hunker down and wait out the attack,” commented oncology research assistant professor Ayesha Shajahan-Haq, PhD.

“From our gene analyses, we found improved activation of the UPR pro-survival pathway in African-American sufferers, compared with other patients, along with improved activity of a quantity of genes related with that pathway,” she continued.

“This can lead to enhanced resistance to common therapies.”

The team behind the study reported that when rosehip extract was concentrated and applied directly to cancer cells, cell proliferation fell by as much as 50%. In addition, the same extract lowered cancer cell migration rates by up to 45% and the effects of chemotherapy on the cancer cells was significantly boosted.

“How awesome would it be to be able to say, Here, take a daily vitamin tablet from the rose plant to possibly help prevent or treat cancer?” wrote Patrick Martin, Ph.D., associate professor at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and one of the leaders of the study.

“It’s a natural product that we found to be effective, with no known side effects.”

Along with bringing to light the apparent power of rosehip extract when treating ER+ breast cancer, the team spoke of gaining a better understanding of why African-American women tend to respond less positively to conventional treatments.

“Our findings provide a partial understanding of racial variations within ER+ breast cancers. We demonstrate both increased resistance to anti-cancer therapy in African-American patients as nicely as the purpose that resistance occurs,” she added.

“Biology may not be the only element contributing to the racial disparities in outcome in the basic public. Variables such as access to mammography, follow-up care or remedy, earnings status and other social components have also been shown to contribute to disparities in outcome.”
