On Tuesday, the CEO and founder of the private company SpaceX has given the detailed reason for the failure of the landing of the Falcon 9 rocket.
Saturday Musk tweeted, “Cause of hard rocket landing confirmed as due to slower than expected throttle valve response.”
The company is going to attempt another launch and landing of the reusable rocket Falcon 9 in June, when the company will send resupply cargo to ISS.
The company has made three attempts to land the rocket on the platform but it has failed three times, the rocket successfully returned to the Earth but it missed the mark.
In January, the first attempt of the rocket failed as it hit the platform and went out of control. In the second attempt in February, the rocket came close to the target but hit the platform 10 meter away from the surface of the drone.
In the third attempt, the rocket came close but ended up tipping over and exploding, it was driven away by the lateral velocity and has hit the target very hard.
Musk in a tweet said “Rocket landed on droneship, but too hard for surviva.”
He added “Looks like Falcon landed fine, but excess lateral velocity caused it to tip over post-landing.”
Landing had problem but the dragon capsule which had the cargo went to the International Space Station or ISS as planned.
The successful return of the Falcon 9 rocket to Earth is a major development as the company wants to reuse the rocket in future for further resupply mission, this would save a lot of cost to the company.
SpaceX said, “SpaceX believes a fully and rapidly reusable rocket is the pivotal breakthrough needed to substantially reduce the cost of space access. The majority of the launch cost comes from building the rocket, which flies only once. Compare that to a commercial airliner – each new plane costs about the same as Falcon 9, but can fly multiple times per day, and conduct tens of thousands of flights over its lifetime. Following the commercial model, a rapidly reusable space launch vehicle could reduce the cost of traveling to space by a hundredfold.”
According to report, for all the three attempts the company has tried to land the rocket on a drone in the sea, but for the next time it is planning to land the rocket on terra firma.
